The King of Swing

There are a few names I think of when I think of country swing dancing. But one stands out above the rest and that is my friend Coby.

I met Coby while I was swing dancing in Provo. He was an outgoing and welcoming face in a sea of strangers. At first glance, Coby might seem like the type of guy who only wants to be the center of attention, but below the surface, he is a caring soul. I had no idea when I met Coby that he would have such a big impact on how I see myself and on my life.

Why?

You might be asking yourself why I think of Coby, well, let me explain.

As a college student, you sometimes have no idea how to meet new people. For me, swing was my way of meeting new people and making friends. In fact, I was going to swing four times a week and having the time of my life. Twice a week we would go swing dancing in Provo at my favorite place: Peak Nights.

I was becoming a regular and had become friends with so many of the instructors, including Coby. What I didn't know then, was that Coby is the reason Peak nights started. As a dancer and businessman, Coby jumped on the rising popularity of country swing and decided to open his own dance place.

Thus, Peak Nights was born.

At the time I had no idea that Coby had founded Peaks. I just loved hannging out with him and dancing with him. He was always filled with so much joy and love that you couldn't help but enjoy his personality.

The more time you spend with Coby, the more loved you feel. Coby always made sure that we had a good time swing dancing and that we were getting asked to dance. But my favorite part about Coby, is the compliments.

That sounds a little conceded, but how often do you actually get complimented? It doesn't happy super often. Coby is the type of person who can lift your mood. Whether it be by dancing with you, watching him "perform" during a line dance, or just having an interaction with him. Coby will leave you feeling beautiful and you won't question if he actually cares because the truth is, he does...a lot.

Not only will Coby teach you how to swing dance, he will become your best friend. I have been to many different swing dancing places, but one thing is for sure. There is only one place with an overwhelming welcoming environment, where everyone feels invited to come and learn how to dance and Coby is a big part of that.
